Given the gravity of the events a decade ago, and having been involved in numerous discussions regarding every thing that has happened in the past 10 years, I wish to weigh in with an editorial.

I just watched 102 minutes which was simulcast on several cable channels.. and I remember clearly that day, just like it was yesterday. I don't know anyone who died that day, but did know several people who have died in the war on terror since then, and my life was changed forever because of my mobilization following 9/11. I believe many members of this forum have been also affected, so bear with me.

The attacks had less to do with us being a "Christian" nation and more to do with the fact that we didn't leave Saudi Arabia after the first Gulf War, like we said we would. Bin Laden was a Saudi, and the US was, in large part, responsible for the creation of Al Queda by funding and training Bin Laden during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.. we need to admit, most Americans didn't know anything about Afghanistan until after 9/11.

If it was a Christian nation issue, why didn't they attack either Monaco or England? In Monaco, you MUST be a Roman Catholic (and be married to a Roman Catholic) to be the head of state; in England you cannot be a Catholic (or married to a Catholic) to be monarch.

The US is the most accepting nation on the planet of people of any race, religion or national origin. Our Constitution does not allow for a national religion, even though most/all of the founding fathers were Christians.

I've heard the arguments that the hatred of Christians by Muslims goes back to the Crusades.. that may well be, but the US didn't even exist during the Dark Ages. I dismiss that at the beginning of the argument.

The simple fact is, we didn't follow thru with our promises and gave a group of crazies a reason to hate us.

I work very closely with a successful group of Muslim developers; I don't resent them, they don't (apparently) resent us.. they are making money in the US.

10 years ago, my husband and I sat stunned at the day's events... I remember telling him that the day's footage needs to be shown frequently, since if we took military action, we need to be continually reminded why particularly as the body count increases.

Hopefully, we will bring our troops home soon. We accomplished the real mission - beheading Al Queda by killing Bin Laden; whether or not we should have been in Iraq is above my pay grade.

In the US, we need to put our flags out on 9-11 - Patriot Day..mine is out. And we need to turn to ourselves for awhile. Perform some community service beyond our normal jobs.. work at a homeless shelter, help a community improvement project.. not for recognition, but because it's the right thing to do.. for America.

Thanks

I wholeheartedly agree. Our history books have toned down what happened in WWII with the Hitler and the Jews and also with Pearl Harbor. The less these events are remembered, the sooner they are forgotten and along with the forgotten memories, there are forgotten reasons for why the events took place. They say history never repeats, but that's only if it is remembered.

Well said peach.

"In the US, we need to put our flags out on 9-11 - Patriot Day..mine is out."

I started hanging my flag after 9/11, I did miss a few months here and there when then flag became too ragged to respectfully hang it, and I didn't have a replacement. Since my son enlisted in the Army, it has be flown continously, and a replacement hung immediatelly.

It would be nice to see the enthusiastic support that the country had following 9/11, shown at all times. I'm not going to get any more political than saying, things need to change in the District, the public typically is not engaged, because our leaders, from all parties, don't seem to be engaged.

Off the soapbox now.......JMHO

mine is out 24/7 and i have replaced it many times. burn the old ones in the winter tire sparked bonfire( ConArb approved)) don't miind paying high taxes for what we have, but i wish large corporations would have to pay their fair share and be more nationalistic about keeping jobs here. the politicians are as useless as t!t$ on a bull, but what else is new?

Who determines what is fair? Don't we tell our kids that "life is not fair".

Personally I lean towards a flat tax with no deductions for every individual and company

I will agree with this statement......IMO, I do not believe however, that it will ever be enacted. This country was / is built on lobbying for individual causes [ i.e - votes for sale ].....The rich

& powerful will continue to lobby / pay for less taxation on themselves. :banghd

peach,

Please continue posting your editorials on here.....Good reading!

You gonna' flat tax capital gains too? What about offshore profits?

How about royalties and license fees?

It is income is it not
Under the current system, no. BTW, under your proposed system, do businesses pay a flat rate based on gross revenue or just profits?

actually, most "empires" who have collected a 10% flat tax haven't fared very well (Roman Empire springs to mind).

Thanks Northstar.. I'll post when I'm inspired.
