Newport panel chair says city violating ADA

Newport panel chair says city violating ADA | Breaking News | providencejournal.com | The Providence Journal

August 22, 2013 12:52 pm By News staff

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- The chairwoman of a Newport committee on access for the disabled is resigning and accusing city officials of ignoring the panel's advice.

The Newport Daily News reports Annette Bourbonniere is quitting the Accessibility Advisory Committee effective Sept. 30.

She and other committee members filed complaints with federal and state officials earlier this month alleging the city is violating the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. They say people in wheelchairs can't access the second floor of City Hall where many meetings are held.

Mayor Henry Winthrop told The Associated Press the city is installing a new wheelchair lift at City Hall, and federal officials have told the city it's not violating the ADA. He says Bourbonniere just doesn't agree with the city's approach to the issue.

She probably wants the second floor brought down to the first floor.

Plus she sounds French and should probably be ignored. Petulant, tantrum, stomps out of room. Yep, a 6 year old.

Brent.
