NFPA 70 Code Process by the numbers

Interesting...........

I like that in each CMP there can be no more than 33% by any group.

I have served on the ICC Fuel Gas Code Committee for the last 4 cycles.

Out of 12 seats:
6-American Gas Association
5-Enforcement
1-Consulting

Guess what proposals go through?

What AGA wants typically, which does not align always with what we want to see in the code for enforcement.

The ANSI essential requirements require no more than 1/3 from any interest group. (Iirc, that's for safety related standards; I believe there are ANSI standards not relating to safety.) That's why all NFPA documents, including the NEC, are ANSI standards, and only a few ICC documents, 300 and A117.1 at least.

The ANSI process assures a balance of interests, with no one interest dominating.
