Topic: Gathering Stakeholders and Building Bridges – Planning for IRC Adoption

Tips on the importance of starting the IRC adoption process early, reaching out to potential opponents, building a strategic plan, setting common goals and objectives, identifying key stakeholders, identifying and resolving stakeholder issues, the importance of educating and listening, utilizing the STEEP (social, technological, economic, ecological and political) model for developing the final recommendations report, and getting the final product out to the stakeholders.

Topic: Soffits, Eaves and Overhangs
Instructor: Russell P. Fleming, P.E., NFSA Executive Vice President
Date: June 22, 2010 (Note: This seminar was originally scheduled for June 15th)
Rules for sprinkler protection of soffits, eaves and overhangs address the need for protection within these construction features as well as the need for protection below. The rules for NFPA 13 are different from those for NFPA 13R and 13D. The NFPA 13 rules, frequently misinterpreted, have been modified further in recent editions of the sprinkler standards.
New “Best Practices Thursday” to Debut in July
In conjunction with Fire Sprinkler Industry – Best Practices, the NFSA is pleased to announce that its “Business Thursday” online seminar series will become “Best Practices Thursday” starting in July. The following dates and topics have been selected:
July 22 – Managing Job Costs
August 19 – Information Technology Update
September 16 – Budgeting for Success
October 21 – The Insurance Market
November 18 – Effective Sales Proposals
December 16 – Contracting 101
The faculty will be from the Best Practices program. Each seminar will carry a registration fee of $125 but will be free to companies participating in the Best Practices program. Look for additional information on the NFSA website at www.nfsa.org or on the Best Practices website www.fsi-bp.org .

New Accredited Dwelling Fire Sprinkler Contractor Seminars
With the new IRC requirement for dwelling sprinklers scheduled to start taking effect in January of 2011, the NFSA has announced a pilot program for its 5-day training seminar aimed at preparing companies for Accredited Dwelling Fire Sprinkler Contractor status:
