California's Building Code Changes to Title 24

Steve Winkel, FAIA. PE, CASp will give an overview of the changes to the 2010 California Building Code from the previous 2007 edition. Steve will focus on the aspects of Title 24 related to commercial, and institutional buildings along with multifamily housing, rather than on the new Residential Code or CalGreen. He will be discussing basic accessibility requirements for “public accommodations” and multi-family housing as part to this course.

Steven R Winkel, FAIA. PE, CASp has forty years of experience as an architect, engineer, landscape architect and recently became certified as an access specialist in California. He manages Preview Group's San Francisco Area Office. Steve is currently serving his third 4-year term as the Architect member of the California Building Standards Commission. He is also on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences and is chair of the FEMA/NIBS Code Resource Support Committee which reviews and comments on building code changes related to seismic safety. Steve has served as chair of the American Institute of Architects Codes and Standards Committee and was on the AIA National Board of Directors. He is the author, along with noted illustrator Frank Ching, of the well-received book Building Codes Illustrated for John Wiley & Sons, now in its third edition. Steve is both an architect and civil engineer with experience in project management, code analysis and quality assurance reviews.
