So, I do not know if what I am doing here is OK or not but I will gladly take the beating if this is a serious transgression of site rules. Please read the info below and do what you can. Prayers are needed but this little guy needs a safe food supply and getting it will require cash. Here is my challenge to all--$50.00 check in the mail tonight. You probably spent about that much to make a bunch of fat kids fatter last week.

All,

The Personnel Committee of the City of Papillion is trying to get the word out in the community about a fundraising dinner for a 3 year old child, Jamus Hovseth (the son of Shawn Hovseth) who has a very rare food allergy whose ONLY food source (a special formula) is no longer available to him. This child's "safe" food supply lasts only until December, so there is a RUSH amongst friends and family to financially assist the family for a series of new food trials, etc. in trying to find another safe food.

Shawn is one of my Combination Building Inspectors who is a valued member of the Nebraska Code Official Association community.

Thanks,

Todd M. Aerni

Min&Max: I think your plea is just fine. Besides a place to debate codes and gain knowledge at time we must stop and ask ourselves what is reasonable service. Those who want to contribute will and there are time that folks need a helping hand.

Cute kid.

AboutJamus is an adventurous 3.5 year old fighting for his life. He has been diagnosed with FPIES, as well as something else specialists have yet to diagnose. His ONLY source of nutrition is a an elemental formula called Neocate Junior.

Description

Jamus Hovseth has been diagnosed with FPIES. They also believe he has another issue that has yet to be diagnosed. According to the FPIES foundation Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) is a type of food allergy affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Classic symptoms of FPIES include profound vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. These symptoms can lead to severe lethargy, change in body temperature and blood pressure. Unlike typical food allergies, symptoms may not be immediate and do not show up on standard allergy tests. Furthermore, the negative allergy evaluation may delay the diagnosis and take the focus off the causative food. Nonetheless, FPIES can present with severe symptoms following ingestion of a food trigger.

Jamus has NO safe foods. He has spent his life testing, reacting, and healing in search of even ONE food his body can tolerate. He lives on an elemental formula called Neocate Junior, but the formula recently changed and now his body no longer tolerates it. He has tried an endless list of other options but nothing else has passed the test.

We have been trying to put together a modular formula as an alternative. However, this still requires a safe source of carbohydrate, salt, fat, and vitamin. Which means more food trials. His food trials can take anywhere from hours to weeks before we know he isn't going to tolerate it. The reactions are severe, but he is the self-proclaimed “Iron Man“. After he has had time to heal…another trial.

Thanks for the link ICE!!! Everyone please take a look so you can see who your effort is assisting.

Thank you Lori and to all who have and will be contributing. For me there is something about actually writing a check and putting it in the snail mail mailbox that makes it more personal. Yeah I know it sounds odd. I pay bills and buy stuff over the internet but for donations I write a check. I encourage everyone to give it a try by sending Jamus a check today.

Jamus now has about 60 more cans of formula due to the publicity about his condition. Donations are still badly needed to find alternative food sources. As we start preparing for our own holiday feasts lets keep in mind a little boy, the son of "one of own" who will be sitting down to a can of powdered formula.
