Painting an alarm bell?

Since it is an audible warning device only as long as it remains functional there should be no issues. NFPA 72 does not consider painting an obstruction unless the painting affects the audible function to my knowledge.

Provided it does not effect the audible level below its required decibel level for the type of occupancy it should not matter. An it is doubtful that it will, it would need to be quite dense to effect it.
