507.5 Two-Story Buildings

The area of a Group B, F, M or S building no more than two stories above grade plane shall not be limited where the building is equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 and is surrounded and adjoined by public ways or yards not less than 60 feet (18 288 mm) in width.

Unlimited area per 507.5 is permitted with mixed use only so long as the listed uses (B, F, M, and S) are the only ones present. The challenge with these large buildings is that you cant throw in an assembly area such as a >750sf conference room, large lunch room, etc.

Is Section 507 to be used in conjunction with occupancies listed in table 506.2 as "UL" or is section 507 separate and apart from the table 506.2?

No, it is an alternate to Table 506.2.
