wow good to find u code gurus after 3 months in exodus when the BB was shut down :D

775 sf 1 story kiosk style fast food restaurant (B business; no seating) inside large mall food court. has sprinklers. type Ib mall shell.

1. the gc has installed plywood as a substrate for some fixed millwork does 2003 IBC code allow for this where?

2. gc also installed in the back of house (food prep area) plywood backing now covered with sheet rock and FRP over existing walls does IBC 2003 allow this?

I've got 2003 IBC section 603.1.1 (1.1 & 1.2) for the plywood backing if it is FRTW and the walls are NLB (<2hr fire rating on partitions).

for millwork only have 603.1 (11) if the plywood is functioning as blocking; being substrate seems like a stretch.

am I missing something?

Re: plywood backing & substrate in type IB

Blocking is limited, substrate is not. There is no guidance as to how much is allowed but you know it when you see it. Here, we would have expected FRTW if the plywood is in sheet form and untreated if in strip form like furring.
