Hello

I am wondering if any knows if there is any such rule stating where the entrance door can be placed into the garage.

Right now our door is placed at the front/side of the cars. We wanted to change the room in the front of the home into a mud room which would bring the entrance door (into the house from the garage) to the rear/side (possibly by the exhaust from the vehicles) Is this not allowed or frowned upon? Does anyone know if this is ok in Crystal Lake Illinois

Could you post a drawing with the proposed mud room location and new door location, would help with the feedback.

Type of house may be helpful like is it a raised ranch, ranch, split etc.

In general you have to separate the garage from the dwelling with 1-hr material or sprinkler protection.

Do you know the material used, type of drywall Type-X?

Is the door between the garage a steel insulated door or 1-3/8 thick solid core wood door, is there a closer on the door or hinges that make the door close automatic?

As I read the IRC, just can't have a door from garage to sleeping rooms. Subject to amendments in your jurisdiction, 1/2" drywall on common walls on garage side, 5/8" on ceilings if living space overhead. Doors like SBC01 described.
