Greetings to all !

I have been contacted to [ possibly ] do some investigative work

for a law firm......The work would \ could be: testifying about various

aspects of structures [ mostly Commercial ], ...various systems &

components within structures, ...various cases as they arise, and

other.......I was asked to submit a Curriculum Vitae to a law office.

Do any of you perform this type of side work with your credentials ?

If so, can you give me any advice, ...pointers, ...your experiences;

[ either good or bad ], ...E & O insurance [ <--- is it even worth a

flip ], ...what if I just want to render an opinion and skip all of the

legal BS.

Thanks for any input !

Many firms have a policy prohibiting design professionals from performing side work. The problem is that if there is a problem with your side project the employer can be sued and found liable to pay any claims. In these situations such a transgression is a firing offense. Check with your employer.

You can not skip the legal BS if you are dealing with lawyers.

I agree with MK - check whether your E&O would cover you, or whether the firm's E&O would cover you (if you're working for a firm/jurisdiction). This seems pretty cut-n-dried in terms of your opinion/interpretation of acceptable practices, but interpreting what is acceptable within your E&O likely WON'T make any sense at all!
