I have been asked to provide input on "post disaster" type

resources.

Here's what is needed:

After any type of disaster ( flood, tornado, earthquake, hurricane,

etc. ), resources to house, feed, hygiene & sanitation needs

would need to be addressed for up to approx. 150 individuals

( men, ...women, ...children, ...pets, ...elderly, ...disabled,

..."possible" ADA needs ), for about 90 days [ to start with anyway ].

One type of portable housing that can be quickly assembled &

light weight are the units used in The Dome Village, in San Diego,

CA ( see the link ).

&

What I am looking for is a consultant / consulting company who

has experience in marshalling these types of resources together.

I am purposefully not wanting FEMA or the state equivalents,

however, I am not disregarding their input!......Also, do any of

you know about any of these type housing units, or others that

are quickly assembled, ...durable, ...light weight, ...can be

delivered to the disaster site pretty quickly?

Thanks for your input!

Coug Dad,

Thanks for your input!

I am looking for more of a comprehensive plan, and

not necessarily focused on just the housing. FWIW,

the now "infamous" FEMA trailers had non-compliant

levels of formaldehyde......Imagine that!

Does anyone on here know of a consultant or

consulting resource that could gather all of

the resources necessary to sustain a minor

populus after an event?

Put another way, if you wanted to set up a small

complex to house and sustain up to 150 peaople for

about 90 days, ....what would you do, initially, for

housing & sanitation needs, ...without using RV's

or FEMA [ type ] trailers? :D

How fast do you want to establish this camp and what level of comfort?

Is it for displaced residents or for workers?

The fastest fairly comfortable option is RV/travel trailers in that they can be obtained in the next state, brought onsite and occupied within 72 hours just needing a place to park--IE Wallmart parking lot.

Many travel trailers and RVs are being self contained and can be occupied for several days without any hookups to utilities--park it, stabilize, it take a shower and cook dinner.

Self contained duration is typically limited by water and waste water holding tank capacity. It can be renewed by leaving the area to refill water tank, refuel and dump holding tanks.

This gives time to re-establish utilities.

Propane fuels heating, hot water, refrigeration, and cooking. Battery provides some lighting, water pump, furnace fan, microwave and ventilation fans. Battery can be charged off tow vehicle, by runing engine or by hooking up to grid.

Optional Generator can charge battery and power AC.

Optional solar panels can charge batteries.

Rentals are available and used travel trailers in decent shape can generally be had for under $10,000--

Another option is a tent city from the National Guard or the Red Cross. They also have the resources for providing power, mass feeding, water and sanitation.

Frank [ & others ],

By design, it will be for displaced residents & family members.

The level of comfort would [ optimally ] be for a heated & cooled

environment.....As I understand the logistal components of

the structures of Dome Village, they can be transported quicker

and assembled faster than the delivery of trailers, and with

less government interaction......Yes, the Red Cross & National

Guard are critically essential organizations that provide

resources / services in a time of need, however, I am looking

to remain outside of the government agencies and provide

names / companies that can do this from the private sector

side.......For the time being, it is a given that the Red Cross

& National Guard will be providing resources / services.

I was asked to provide some private sector names /

companies that could do this, ...or at the very least, to

come up with something similar to "the domes".

In my initial conversation, with the requesting party, I

even mentioned the "tent cities" [ similar to the ones

used in Iraq ]......I was asked to research for something

similar to "the domes", ...not sure why, but I am

doing what I was asked.

What is being proposed appears to be considerably beyond what is normally recommended.

This also looks like a way to spend a lot of money. Suggest that it may be more prudent to spend some of this money into mitigating the potential dmage.

Thank you all for your input!

cda,

The "building" side! ;)

Mark K,

I am going on the assumption that the disaster /

event has already occurred, and similar to the The

Dome Village, a community in Anywhere, U.S.A. has

a need for short term housing and other services,

other than the Red Cross, National Guard, United

Way & others......The subject of money or funding

hasn't even come up.

I agree that preparedness is always a good thing,

but even that has limitations.

So is there an emergency management dept in the city??

If so hopefully they have addressed this

And just where in the country that all of these happen:::After any type of disaster ( flood, tornado, earthquake, hurricane,????

cda,

Sorry for the long interval between responses.

I do not know of a specific location / city / municipality that I

could say has an Emergency Management Dept., because my

OP was / is for a hypothetical scenario......I was asked to provide

a list of resources that "could" be used after a type of disaster,

and these resources were to be from the private sector.....The

requesting party acknowledges that governmental resources

will be utilized in the event of...

In my search, I came across some companies that provide /

manufacture "Disaster Relief structures".......See the links:

Thanks again for all the input! ;)
