Preganant Women?

Why do people always go up to pregnant women and pat their tummies when they give congratulations?

I notice this occurring while taking a break on a rather large inspection. I further noticed, nobody went up to the dad, who was present, and grab his junk, and said, Good Job!

When I was little! my father would walk up to family friends who were pregnant and say: "How did that happen?" they would just look at him with a blank face....... I didn't get it until later.......
