I am preparing for my AREs and am wondering if anyone has any advice on study guides, references, and, or which exams to start off with.

I am thinking of starting with the Site Planning, although, I found the NCARB example less than helpful other than familiarizing myself with the software (as is it's noted function).

Thank you in advance.

Took mine over 20 years ago, so I don't have recent experience with the exam to give you any advice on order.

I taught the ARE preparation course on "Construction Documents and Services" for the Arizona AIA and used the Kaplan study guide as one of the source materials. You can find the Kaplan guides at http://www.kaplanaecarchitecture.com/.

As other's have said, AREforum.org

My recommendation is to start with Schematic Design because it does not mix vignettes and multiple choice.

And the mindset of multiple choice is entirely different from the approach to the graphic vignettes.

Thank you for all of your recommondations. I have been diving into the ARE Forum and loving it. I am looking into the Schematic Design and Site Planning & Design Exams.

My other piece of standard ARE advice: Study for multiple tests at the same time and then schedule your exams when you are prepared - approach them in parallel rather than serially.

The best start is at http://www.areforum.org/

There will be numerous philosophies on what to study but they do provide you with other manuals, books, guides that will help. They also can provide you access to purchasing used flash cards, books, etc and they have been helpful in providing ALTERNATE drawings for the CAD portion.
