protection of wood based products against decay (R317)

I have a new building going up with slab on grade floor, problem is grade is about 2" below finish floor and I was hoping to not have to stub the foundation wall above the slab to get that 6" separation between wood sheathing and ground for a variety of reasons, so my thought was, as I'll have rigid insulation on the exterior, to run 1" rigid from top of footing straight up to the eave to achieve the CI requirement for the exterior walls, and an additional inch of rigid with stucco finish (Styro Industries) from top of foundation to 8" above finish floor grade for the slab on grade wall CI requirement (project is using previous code, not newly adopted energy), essentially creating a barrier protecting the wood sheathing and non-treated wall studs from exposure that could cause decay? do you think this would be acceptable in lieu of pressure treated plywood sheathing at the bottom? if the bottom of the studs sitting on the PT plate are less than 6" above grade, would they need to be PT or just the exterior of the wall? the siding material is fiber cement so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ahh, there it is…..thanks….so actually if I’m reading it correctly, only such members in contact with concrete need to be PT, so really just the sill, obviously, and lower plywood, if I wish to forego stubbing up the foundation wall?

Are you going out for permit before the end of the year? CT OSBI allows projects in design during a new code adoption a 3 month grace period to submit for permit under the previous code. It is also my understanding that you will have to submit a code mod request to be allowed to submit under the old code.

we had filed sealed drawings after the project was approved by zoning a couple months ago so the building official said we could use the previous code as we had started the process before oct. 1. The developer had the conversation with him about this, so I don't know if he mentioned a mod request or not, but I don't believe so.

If you got your drawings into the BO before October 1st you should be all set using the previous code, no code mod should be required.
