Pull Down Ladders Insulation

I've had builders build a sort of "coffin" out of foam insulation that sets over the opening that is easily set aside for access after the ladder is pulled down. Worked for me.

Glennman CBO,

Does that ' foam insulation coffin thingy ' meet the minimum R-value ( see Table N1102.1 in

the `06 IRC - - R-30 ) for ceilings?

.

It was (3) layers of the 2" foam all laminated together (R-30). It hardly weighed anything. The homeowner/builder made it himself, and did a nice job. The (3) layers were on the sides and top.

It's when you wear goggles while performing the search, or, your technical advisory group is wearing them while they do the search.

Sorry, I couldn't pass it up.

Glennman CBO,

Thanks for clearing that up! :)

FWIW, I started trying to construct one of those ' home made insulation coffin thingies ' for

one of my clients. They are considering purchasing one of the attic door products instead.

We'll see if it will fit in their application...
