2009 Family of codes. Table 402.1.1 of the IECC Zone 6 shows basement wall at 15/19.

Table 1102.1 of the IRC Zone 6 shows basement wall at 10/13.

I have been requiring the R-15 since January 2010. Just discovered this am the difference between the the two codes. Is this a typo in one of the codes or is there a reason for the different R-values?

Hey Pa. guys. Are you requiring R10/R13 or R15/R19 for basement walls?

Francis,

Now I'm more confused. Pa Alternative is normally less restrictive than IECC.

Francis,

Thanks for the link; I noticed that it doesn't state that the Fed will check to see if it's enforced. Oklahoma has accepted the stimulus money; and has agreed to the requirements. They have no problem with the extra requirements since most here don't enforce the IRC anyway. :D

Just quickly reviewed PA laws and it states that the IRC has to comply with the IECC however UCC administrative section given in the link below permits the alternate method. The central and south counties are less restrictive than the north counties.

(d) A permit applicant may utilize one of the following prescriptive methods to demonstrate compliance with the energy conservation requirements of the Uniform Construction Code. The standards are those listed for the climatic zone of this Commonwealth where the building or structure is located:

(1) The prescriptive methods for detached residential buildings contained in the current version of the "International Energy Conservation Code" compliance guide containing State maps, prescriptive energy packages and related software published by the United States Department of Energy, Building Standards and Guidelines Program (REScheck TM ) or

"Pennsylvania’s Alternative Residential Energy Provisions."

Hope this helps

Uncle Bob, LMAO

Maybe they're following the example set by the Feds!

The alternate method follows the IECC. In the past the IECC and the IRC were identical. The R-10 that is in the IRC is far more than was required before Pa. adopted the ICC. Prior to adoption there was no requirement.
