Receiving stock through a restroom

2009 I-codes (for the most part) PA really butchered the 2006 through 2015 Codes.

A building currently receives its stock of dry goods for the needed by carrying it through the front door, down the hall, through the kitchen, through the community room and finally into the storage room. Because of the layout of the building and the site, there is an opportunity to lay a driveway up to an existing door that happens to be on the exterior wall of a women's restroom (and elevated to truck floor height) to receive stock through the restroom, then through the community room and into the storage room. It really is a significantly shorter distance which would allow the use of a hand truck.

Is there something in the code that prohibits it?

That could produce an awkward situation. If the restroom is for the public's use, closing it for a delivery might result in complaints,

There is nothing in the Codes that prevents it......Like

Department would approve of such........Then again,
it IS Pennsyl-Tucky !

I s`pose you could schedule deliveries before or after
normal hours.

I couldn't find anything in the code that would prohibit it and after having the conversation with my health administrator, there is nothing in PA's health code that would prohibit it. What is prohibited is storing food in a restroom.

The restroom is only used when the community room is reserved and the deliveries wouldn't (in theory) come at the same time.

Not the best Design, though no apparent code violation. Unless there is a female customer or employee working at the time of delivery

Then you have a violation, restroom not available and can be a civil rights issue

Don't fret, it is a large restroom and the water closets are in stalls. The area the hand truck will pass through is a straight shot from door to door, like a hall.

I too disagree with this design choice, but, without a regulation to prohibit it, I'm not one to stop it.

I would not suggest using the restroom for anything else than its main use. Is it possible to re-arrange the space and provide a hallway for the dry goods by reducing the ladies restroom size?

A stretch.. but 1210.4 Toilet room location.
Toilet rooms shall not open directly into a room used for the preparation of food for service to the public.

I agree that it is a bad idea, just not against Code.

Also, consider floor finish; sealed concrete vs tile for long term wearability.
Is this an accessory RR or are others available? If provided, they must be accessible if available to the public.

This is a restroom that is not regularly used at it is in addition to other restrooms in the building. The use doesn't prepare food for consumption by the public. The use is providing packaged goods to the needy.

Non food and packaged "non-perishable" foods, such as canned goods and the like. What surprises me the most in this situation, is that the PA health code doesn't address this.

Code cannot address every possible stupid thing....Maybe you can get PA to adopt the Tiger code, highly effective at getting people to do the right thing.

I certainly agree, and believe in personal responsibility, but given what types of codes, ordinances and laws that I've seen adopted, I was surprised to find that this is not covered.
