And its going to get worse if we don't get some of these folks to start coming to the table. For as little as $5 per year they can be a Supporter or $35 a year, a Sawhorse with lots of permissions.

The times are changing and I am sick of seeing the same people always being the ones to support this forum. You folks have done enough, time to let the rest of them come to the table with some cash. I don't work for free any more.

That helped lead to the demise of "the" other site

Some cannot a ford, in this economy, even a small amount...

So sick of hearing about "this economy". When are we going to stop using it as an excuse while paying $3.99 for a bag a chips so sit on the couch and watch cable TV while getting fat?

If you can't afford $5 per year to be a supporter then you are probably not working and probably don't want to.

I do have to be careful not to go backwards. We are steadily growing with quality membership. I can turn off the spam control and we would have huge numbers but they would not have meaning.

I am with you on that one. How much does a pack of cigarets, a beer, a mixed drink, a sporting event, football, basketball, soccer, etc.

The most of the information posted on this site is invaluable to not only the inspectors, builders, manufactures, consumers, etc.

Me personally, I believe the yearly Sawhorse membership is a miniscule amount of money to pay in comparison to the technical manuals that I purchase, along with the code cycles.

As a department of one, I appreciate ALL of the feedback (positive and negative) I get here, and the ability to share perspectives and information with other professionals and will always support this forum as long as I can....It costs less than a 30th of what I hear people are paying for cable TV these days (I don't have it)...And I usually come away a better professional and not a couch potato....One of the best ways I know to learn is active discussion, anyone can watch and mimic, but if you don't understand the reasoning, you haven't really learned anything...

I see an awful lot of people coming in and asking one very specific question. These are people that have a need for an answer and will ( I assume) pay a little $$ for this valuable information they are obviously seeking. How about those answer type sites that will charge you an amount for the answer? can something like this be done where they can be enticed to drop a $5 bill to receive an answer vetted by professionals to their question? Just a thought............

The problem is that there is not guarantee that someone will answer it and that the answer will be correct as we all still differ in our code interpretation opinion.
Vetted by 2 with code article sited. I do believe it will work.

Location of enquirer.

New construction or remodeling.

Year of question.

Well if your only paying $5 you cant expect 100% accuracy, but it will be really damn close and prolly worth $35 at that! Besides i have seen incorrect answers or not fully complete answers being provided on those other sites and they have no qualms charging money.

It would also be beneficial for the "primary" members to answer these questions as a way to generate site income rather than having to donate themselves.

Is it possible to provide a link to an "invoice"

If the invoice has a place to fill in the company or jurisdictions name maybe some would find the small amount in their "professional dues and membership budgets"

Waiting for a call baack from the IT people about some other stuff so I'll throw that question in there too. Thanks for the idea.

The employment section cannot be viewed unless you are a Supporter or Sawhorse
Can they see the titles/forum sections that they are not allowed in? What I'm asking is - is there like a slash through the section showing them that the forum exists but that they can't access it?

Good point......People need to know what they are missing.....

Basically, if you log out and try to look at it, that is what it will look like to them. They know that it exists but when they click on it they get a message telling them that they have to be a supporter or sawhorse to view the content

I heard the oil fields of North Dakota are hiring.

Do you want me to put in a good word for you?

I agree! we are trying to get some additional income, but we cannot expect the unemployed people that are the least likely or able to provide that to provide much of a revenue stream. That is why I think that these single person jurisdictions that come here with very specific questions that they would like answered from the "experts" here should be fine with kicking down some coin for the answer they so desire. I do not know how you entice them to do that other than some good old fashioned guilt.

Can you limit them to x amount a views per month and or week and then say you need to become a member to see more and or more threads? Like Pandora does when listening to music and the NY Times does when reading articles.
