Can anyone in the forum tell me where in the elevator code it is required that elevator technicians barricade the pit while they have the passenger doors open please? This is for the state of North Dakota; do they have their own state code?

Thanks, Mia

mia,

Don't have a copy of the elevator code, but here is one section in

the OSHA requirements.

1910.23(a)(5) Every pit and trapdoor floor opening, infrequently

used, shall be guarded by a floor opening cover of standard strength

and construction. While the cover is not in place, the pit or trap

opening shall be constantly attended by someone or shall be

protected on all exposed sides by removable standard railings.

Not a code but a good reference

Thank you Mtlogcabin, Globe Trekker and Kearney.200! I thought it would be in the elevator code, but it is spelled out in OSHA and the Field Technician Safety Handbook as you listed.

mia,

You might also check ASME A17.1 - Safety Code For Elevators and Escalators

..if you can get your hands on a copy. I surfed the `net and could not find

a FREE version to access. Maybe Section 2.11.???

.

Thank you for the link Paul. I have tried to find ASME A17.1 for other issues with no luck:)
