Southern CA Edison allow residential home to install an additional meter for Electrical Vehical charging purpose. Did anyone have this type of request before?

Currently, the contractor installed an additional meter panel with it's own servive riser

next to the existing meter panel. My concern is the new EV panel with so many empty breaker slot will be too easy for home owner to tap th this panel. I've told the electrician

it only allow meter socket with one set of disconnect not meter panel. An I making right

judgement call?

I've asked LA County for advise, so far no firm answer yet, but one plan checker do told me Residential EV charging meter & station plan check is required.

Any suggestion?

I can't speak for Ca. however the NEC does allow six disconnect for a service. This means you could install a 20 circuit panel as long as only 6 disconnects are utilized. The person that adds the seventh would be in violation. The NEC supposedly does not deal in what-ifs. I don't know if that helps

On-Peak: 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. - all year, every day

Off-Peak: All other hours - all year, everyday

For more EV-related information, please call Southern California Edison at 1-800-4EV-INFO.

Thanks for all your reply. I've receive LA County's call regarding EV charging station with a seperate meter.

LA County don't regulate types of meter socket with a dedicate disconnect or meter panel to be use, but electrical plan check is required.
