This is one of those deals where a general contractor replaced a furnace. It is such a hack job that I removed the return air grill to get a look inside.

Only because there are fuses in the disconnect.

Is that t-stat wire tied to that 120 circuit?
Older heating systems used a 120 volt thermostat, as the systems are upgraded and low voltage thermostats were used it was common to splice into the older romex so you did not have to run a new line.
