A workshop aimed at helping businesses ward off disability access lawsuits will be held Thursday in Riverbank. More lawsuits based on the Americans with Disabilities Act are filed in California than any other state, and more than 50 have been brought against companies in Stanislaus and Merced counties.
All detected by The Modesto Bee were filed by serial plaintiffs, including a pedophile from Arizona who has been suing California companies for 13 years. A workshop notice cites “complicated and changing regulations (that) give lawsuit abusers the opportunity to take advantage of confusing laws.”
The keynote speaker will be Kim Stone, president of the Civil Justice Association of California, who last month presented a similar message to business owners in Modesto. The workshop sponsor is Sen. Cathleen Galgiani, D-Stockton, and the free event is presented by Riverbank City Hall and chambers of commerce in Riverbank and Oakdale.
Thursday’s workshop will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St. For more information,
