Section 508 Best Practices Webinar: Maps for All: Building Accessible Maps
Laptop open with text "Webinar" on screen
Maps are important tools in providing information about the world. They help us travel from one location to another, organize information, and orient ourselves so that we can determine where we are and how to get to where we want to go. Federal and state agencies use maps to inform members of the public and policy makers, and to assist agency employees in conducting their missions by providing vital information. Online maps, designed without accessibility features, present barriers to individuals with disabilities.

The next webinar in the U.S. Access Board’s Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series will take place Tuesday, September 26 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (ET) and introduce the concept, development, tools, and benefits of creating and using accessible maps. Presenters from the General Services Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources of the State of Minnesota will discuss how they create accessible maps in different formats to meet their missions of informing and educating the public. Presenters will also review some barriers, solutions, and implications to making accessible data visualizations. This session is intended for entry-level to intermediate audiences, but all are welcome to join.

For more details or to register, visit Great Lakes ADA Center’s Maps for All: Building Accessible Maps webinar webpage. Questions can be submitted in advance of the session or can be posed during the live webinar. Webinar attendees can receive a participation certificate for attending the 90-minute session.

Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session. Instructions for accessing the webinar on the day of the session will be sent via email to registered individuals in advance of the session. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and Video Sign Language Interpreters are available for the session and will be broadcast via the webinar platform. A telephone option (not toll-free) for receiving audio is also available.

Works for me. There’s a lot of seminars with CEUs attached. If you can’t attend the live seminar it is recorded for future viewing.

Thanks Mark
