Greetings all,

I've been a student of the NEC for longer than I care to admit. Maybe one of you fine folks can tell me if I'm missing something here.

I was called out for an electric reconnect on an apartment unit. The bldg has about 10 units with one service disconnect. The service disconnect supplies all 10 meters. From each meter there is a feeder to each unit. There are no disconnects on the load side of the meters for the feeders, only the one main for the building. Was this ever legal and if so when? This building dates back to maybe 40 years but I think less. I don't ever recall a tap rule allowed for such an installation. I do admit that I did all industrial work in my earlier years though so maybe I'm wrong. Bottom line is I'm not accepting it now though.

Greetings

Well after I posted up I talked with the electric contractor that does all of their work. He said he has been trying to get this fixed up for a long time. I volunteered to meet with the management co to try and get this rectified.

BTW, the feeders are run to each unit. There are mains on the panels in each unit I just found out. I'm glad to hear that. However, it's still a violation of 240-6 and no tap rule applies either. There are essentially 10 meters and feeders and all are protected by 400 amp fuses.
