The 2024 IRC has a new section under two-family dwellings. R302.3.6 Shared accessory rooms. what are your thoughts?

I see a few problems with this section;
  • What is a shared accessory room? This is not a defined term in the IRC
  • The accessory room is not required to be separated from the dwelling units as per R302.3.2

I think the "problem" is that you have essentially no "unit to unit" rating through the accessory room....You need 1/2" drywall on the inside of the room and can have nothing inside the unit...Less of an issue where IRC sprinklers are in play....
