I must absolutely agree with the two writers that the ugly Paia woodshed minimall is a disgrace.
It does not fit in with the north shore aloha feel of Paia. I am a Vietnam disabled veteran in a wheelchair, born and raised in Paia.
This is a disgrace as a retail business center. It has no handicap ramps, handicap parking or access for the disabled.
How did these seven new cheaply built shed buildings get approved by our Planning Department with no access for the disabled? Any other new retail construction from a legitimate builder must have handicapped accessibility in 2010. What is going on here?
There are five to six steps on every woodshed. Tear them down. Even if a disabled person could get up their steps, there is no room to turn around in these ridiculous wood boxes, no handicap parking in their parking lot and it is a gravel lot that no wheelchair can move across.
It's time for some answers from our county offices and an investigation for our handicapped citizens of Hawaii. The Americans with Disabilities Act is a law that was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990.
We must stop this type of development now.
