I am doing an office refurb of a space on the 4th floor of a high rise. While the ceiling is down, we have instructed the contractor to install temporary heat detectors as is required.

Here is Boston, we have to provide a narrative describing the FA system to the FD. In comments recently received from the Boston FD, they are asking me what smoke control functions will occur as a result of one of these heat detectors being actuated.

This struck me as odd, because to my knowledge smoke control occurs in stairwells and in atriums not in tenant spaces. Am I correct in this assumption?

Thanks,

Mike

It depends upon the age of the building. There was a period of time when high rises were designed to put the fire floor in exhaust and other floors either in 100% supply or neutral. You would need to look at the original design or the annual commissioning reports to see what is there.

agree......

depends on how the system is designed talk to building maintance or manager
