Table 715.4 - 2006 IBC

Greetings to all!

I am looking for info on the required rating of fire doors in fire rated assemblies.

In the referenced Table, in one column it gives the listed rating of the assembly,

and the other column it gives the minimum rating required of the door installed

in to that assembly.

QUESTION # 1: Where in the IBC or IFC is the rating of the doors provided?

(EX: A 3 hr. assembly requires a 3 hr. rated door. Is this a true full 3 hrs.,

or is it a 90 minute rated door?)

My (very) vague memory thought that a 3 hr. fire rated door could be a 90 min. rated door.

Are you thinking of footenote a?

a. Two doors, each with a fire protection rating of 11/2 hours, installed on opposite sides of the same opening in a fire wall, shall be deemed equivalent in fire protection rating to one 3-hour fire door.

Three hour fire wall is a three hour door

Three hour exterior wall is a 90 minute door

It used to be a four hour wall had two 3 hour doors, but now it is only one.

2009 IBC

A 3 hr rated exterior wall is allowed to have a 90 minute door. A 3 hr fire wall and 3 hr fire barrier are required to have a 3 hr door or a 90 minte door on each side of the same opening.

One thumb on an IPhone is way too slow for these guys.

Nah, ..I saw the Footnote. Not that type of application.

I have an existing Type "B" Occ. Group that wants to now add an S-1 (vehicle

repairs) with a separating wall, and we adopted the 2003 version of Table

302.3.2 - Required Separation Of Occupanices (HOURS). This particular Table

requires a 3 hr. separation, hence my question.

BTW, my application involves an interior door & wall assembly.
