The magic of silicone

Oftentimes the plans are vague to worthless when it comes to the mounts. This plan shows this hardware which is lag bolted to the rafters. It also shows a dotted line around, and shaped similar to, the mount. The dotted line is labeled "flashing" and interrupts the shingles in the typical "shingle fashion"



Here and there they placed caulk between the bracket and the shingle. Right away I am being told, " We have been doing it like this for years" "you are the first inspector to call us on this" "It just needs more caulking....it's silicone caulk you know"
