This might be specific to Crested Butte, Colorado, though it is happening in many places, but, we all know that eventually, the construction industry will find a way to blame building codes on the cost of housing.

 
Not unique to them. Here in Atlantic Canada we are seeing these same issues. As people continue to leave these population centers seeking better quality of life, I don't see how this is going to improve.
 
Our codes have not changed since October 20, 2017 and probably will not change until late 2022, the run up in prices here in Massachusetts must be due to demand or the bidding wars
 
Crested Butte is another version of Aspen or Vail, the housing prices have always been ridiculous.
