Many elec. service up-grades result in compromised wall top plates. The existing may have been a surface mount or recessed with as small as a 1" service entrance conduit. Now we have a 2" conduit with a recessed cabinet. We may or may not be able to see the plates upon inspection. Almost all of them that are visible show a 2 1/2" to 3" bore that took out the plates. Dead center with 2 1/2 leaves 1/2" on each side. Forget 3". It's not much better with an 1 1/2" conduit.

I require a structural strap. ST22.

Am I being picky? Add an r?

I see my mistake. ST22 isn't right at all. It's only 1 1/4" wide. ST2215 is 2 1/16" wide. That way both plates are fastened. When I go back and see the straps I do recall seeing the narrow ST22 and wider ST. When it's been narrow, I wouldn't ask them to replace it. Fancy that, I learned about a harsh in my gig today. You see that's why I am here. I've been giving them the wrong info. I missed by two numbers and you fixed it for me. Because you replied I had to wonder about an ST18. Turns out that the difference between ST18 and ST22 is 4" length.

Thank-you David,
