Twas the Night Before Inspection

’Twas the night before inspection, and all through the site,
Not a tradesman was stirring, not even a light.
The blueprints were hung by the toolbox with care,
In hopes that the inspector soon would be there.

The framers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of perfect beams danced in their heads.
And the plumber with wrenches, and I with my plans,
Had just settled down to review final scans.

When out on the lot there arose such a chatter,
I checked my alerts to see what was the matter.
Away to my tablet I flew like a flash,
Logged into the forum, refreshed in a dash.

The posts on the page were lively that night,
With questions on outlets and trusses in sight.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But inspectors online, sharing wisdom sincere!

With seasoned professionals, so savvy and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be “Old Nick.”
More rapid than code checks, their answers they came,
And they typed and they posted and called codes by name:

“Now IRC! Now IBC! NEC and IMC!
On setbacks! On clearances! On R-values and C!
To the heart of the law! To the top of the specs!
Solve every gray area and nail down those checks!”

Meanwhile, on the job site, the trades grew concerned,
Would the framing pass muster? Had the firestops been turned?
The HVAC was ready, the wiring laid tight,
The plumber assured us the pressure test was right.

And then, in the forum, arose a new thread,
With inspectors debating the things they had read.
They typed up corrections and linked every rule,
For in building, precision is everyone’s tool.

Their words were like gold, so precise and well-versed,
For when it came to the code, they’d rehearsed and rehearsed.
They wrote of inspections, best practices, and care,
The Building Code Forum—a place we all share.

The trades were at ease, as the morning drew near,
For The Building Code Forum had vanquished their fear.
The inspectors arrived, their clipboards held high,
With smiles and nods and a twinkle in their eye.

They sprang to their trucks, gave a honk of delight,
And drove out of sight, shouting,
“Adhere to the codes, and keep standards tight!
Merry building to all, and to all, a good night!”
