UG service with a CL200 meter, 200A meter enclosure. Feeds a trough inside which then splits off to 2 separate 200A main panels.

Single family residence with electric baseboard heat and no load calculations provided.

Code compliant or not?

You make the call.

Re: Two 200A mains on one CL200 meter

I would say thats a violation of;

230.31 Size and Rating.(A) General. Service-lateral conductors shall have sufficient ampacity to carry the current for the load as calculated in accordance with Article 220 and shall have adequate mechanical strength.
Need a load calc.

Re: Two 200A mains on one CL200 meter

Nothing stops the installation of a larger capacity panel than required. It must be fused correctly for the loads encountered though.

Re: Two 200A mains on one CL200 meter

If a load calculation is provided, this can be a code compliant installation.

The issue that I have is that the future additions are not taken into consideration and can cause problems with a "compliant" installation.

Re: Two 200A mains on one CL200 meter

Jeff - Those 'future additions' (same true for 'alterations') need to be reviewed at the time they are proposed in order to make a determination regarding the adequacy of the electrical system to accomodate them.

Don't burn too much energy on what 'might' be in the future. You're gonna need it all to stay warm later this week. ;)
