We are in Massachuetts using IRC 2009 for two-family buidings. Does anyone have a detail showing a 1hr & 2hr fire separtion between the units? Specifically showing the area between the floors of 2 story buildings.

Not an IRC person

But why do you think you need rated seperation between floors in the same unit??

R302.3 Two-family dwellings.

Dwelling units in two-family dwellings shall be separated from each other by wall and/or floor assemblies having not less than a 1-hour fire-resistance rating when tested in accordance with ASTM E 119 or UL 263. Fire-resistance-rated floor-ceiling and wall assemblies shall extend to and be tight against the exterior wall , and wall assemblies shall extend from the foundation to the underside of the roof sheathing.

R302.3.1 Supporting construction.

When floor assemblies are required to be fire-resistance rated by Section R302.3, the supporting construction of such assemblies shall have an equal or greater fire-resistance rating.

celticfunding,

Welcome to The Building Codes Forum !

This link is to the Underwriters Laboratories, Product Specifications page.

You can search their database of rated assemblies by: the fire rating that

you want, or the type of fire rated assembly that you want.........Also,

you can search by the specific type of code you are using.

You may want to bookmark this link........I had to search for awhile to

find these "approved, fire rated assemblies" on the U.L. web site.

It's good stuff though !

It sounds like the OP's concern is the continuity of the separation at the floor/ceiling assembly for side-by-side units...
