Type 3 Construction

Type 3 construction requires non-combustible exterior walls. Does the code allow wood blocking for windows and doors? What section?

I think it would need to be FRTW. See Section 602.3 2006 IBC. (As long as it was not required to be over a 2-hour rating.)

However, non-FRTW is allowed for types I and II in item 11 of Section 603.1 so, why not for type III. Hmmmmm.

Look at 603.1 #11 that is for type I & II which is more restrictive.

GPE: Thanks. After reading the section so many times, I forgot about FRTW. And I was getting hung up on "well if Type I and II can use wood, why can't Type III?"
