Type I hood with laminate attached

Has anyone seen type I kitchen hoods with a laminate glued to the outside surface of the hood? I have one going in a new hospital cafeteria that has a copper laminate glued to it. The outer surface of the laminate is a copper foil (not an issue), but the backing, which is most of the laminate thickness, is made of kraft paper bonded together with resin. My opinion is that the laminate violates the 18" clearance to combustibles requirement. It is my understanding that the laminate was installed at the factory, but am not sure of that. If the hood was tested to ul710 with the laminate on it, I would accept it, but otherwise not. Any help or thoughts?

If it's not on the listing (laminate, I mean) then it's not included in the testing. I would ask for a new listing that indicates exactly what they are installing.

Halton is the hood manufacturer. The hood itself is 710 listed, but I have seen nothing to indicate it has been tested with the laminate on it. I spoke with the local supplier earlier today, and they are "still working on it" for about 3 weeks now. That's also who told me it came from the factory with the laminate already on it and also who said, of course, they've been installed "all over the country with no problems." The laminate looks like the same thing used to make formica countertops.

Hold to your guns klarenbeek. Something sounds fishy with this cosmetic application on

the hood. Of course, anything to make a sale right? Plus, it probably looks real

good too! Never mind those pesky codes. They're only suggestions anyway!
