Using Google AdSense to increase traffic

Not where I really want to be
Please don't flame me but I met with another forum administrator who has an extremely large forum that has about 176,000+ users and millions of posts. He has highly recommended that I use google adsense to increase traffic to the site.

At the bottom of the pages there will be text only by google with what are suppose to be relevant links to other business sites.

THIS WILL NOT BE VISIBLE TO THOSE THAT HAVE DONATED AND ARE SIGNED IN

What he has explained to me is that although this is form of advertising that does not generate much if any money at all, it puts the website into hyper-drive with google as far as their searches are concerned.

It will only be at the bottom of the pages and it is set to only be text, no banners or flashing crap. This is for the good of the board to increase traffic.

Again:

THIS WILL NOT BE VISIBLE TO THOSE THAT HAVE DONATED AND ARE SIGNED IN

This is a trial basis to see if the increase in traffic is steady and worth it.

If you have a problem with this and you donated money, I will refund your money in its entirety. This move was HIGHLY recommended to increase traffic through google. I did not allow banners or it to be placed anywhere other than the bottom of the page. I am sure that most people will not see it.

Feedback please and make sure you sign in if you don't want to read the google text at the bottom of the page.

I have no problem with it.

It appears to me as 3 extra lines of text with hyperlinks.

I would only consider it a "problem" if advertising came in the form of pop-ups in the middle of the screen, or constant banners fixed to the page.

Curious to know what the gains will be. Keep us posted.

p.s. If the aforementioned pop-ups or banners existed. Could they be made visible only for non-registered users?

I know next to nothing about the business end of websites, but I would think if a user found the site, browsed the forum seeing ads, found useful information and/or wanted to post, then those ads would disappear once they registered.

I dunno, just wondering.

I've never had any problem with google click through adds - they're small, they're targeted, they pay for clicks rather than views, and I've more than once found my way to good information or product becuase of them.

If it increases traffic, and if it is what I saw at the bottom of the page, go for it. To be honest, even if it was flashing banners etc. I have gotten to the point that I really don't see them anymore when I go to pages.

I agree, increased traffic, and not visible to board supporters.......sound like a win-win situration. No problem here.

Google will not tell us the exact amount that we can get paid. There is no particular payment schedule as the advertisers bid for space and have different levels of placement along with the location on the website issue. Where I put it at the bottom gets the least amount of money and since I opted out of banners and only use text, it is even less.

Here is an example:

In 2 days, we have had about 1500 page impressions and 2 click through (1 was me testing it) and we generated $1.12 which we won't get until we reach a threshold of $100 otherwise it is not worth it for them to pay. We had to agree to this. After you reach the threshold, they then do an investigation to ensure that the numbers are accurate and actual, even though they are their numbers. Go figure. This is probably why Google is trading at such a high number on the stock market.

If anyone is interested on how Google AdSense works, please go to google.com and research it. I just hope it

Weekends are normally slow on this site and this weekend we had about a 20% increase in traffic compared to previous weekends within the past month and a 100% increase over the weekend average over the past 6 months.

If I can't see it, I'm ok with it. Having said that, IF I saw it I MIGHT click through , , if I can't see it I won't ever think about it (I stay logged in always, so I will never see it without trying to)

Go ahead and click through if you are ever logged out. It will only generate money.
When google detects that sort of thing the page rankings go down and sites get kicked out of AdSense, and google works very very hard to develop algorithms to do that and they are chock full of really fn smart people.

Yeah, it is definitely a click through. Tuesday we had a very high 5,500+ page views per google adsense but no click throughs therefore we made $0.00. I was hoping we would get paid by impressions & page views but is apparently not happening. I'll see what kind of numbers we have after a month with adsense.
