Should a Vehicle repair pavilion ( it says this on the plans) with no sides comply with IBC 406.8 Repair Garage?
There is no definition of a garage in the IBC but it does meet what 406.3.5 calls a carport.

Thier getting pretty crafty arn't they with these new space decriptions. No sides, I'd say carport, must be trying to get around a sprinkler system requirement?

Is it a car dealership?

406.3

[BG] REPAIR GARAGE. A building, structure or portion thereof used for servicing or repairing motor vehicles.

Yes 406.8 is applicable to the use within the fire area.

The ventilation requirements may not be applicable to a open structure, however, 406.8.3 may be applicable depending on size and vehicles being repaired

[F] 406.8.3 Automatic sprinkler system.
A repair garage shall be equipped with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.2.9.1.

[F] COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE. A motor vehicle used to transport passengers or property where the motor vehicle meets one of the following:

1. Has a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds (4540 kg) or more.

2. Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

Thanks, I did not know there was a definition of a Repair Garage. I was just trying to find "garage". At 3,000 sq ft the building is too small to require sprinklers.

I find it interesting that this is being proposed in Pennsylvania where you get some pretty bad weather in the winter. You certainly wouldn't want to be doing much work without some protection from the cold and wind in bad weather.
