Greetings to all!

I have a set of construction plans in for review, for a 2 story, single family dwelling to be built.

In the plans, they have a cantilevered balcony that is outside the allowable lengths for the

cantilevering. In addition to this discrepancy, the plans indicate a load bearing wall on the

2nd floor that is offset to the load bearing wall underneath by at least 5 ft.

QUESTION # 1: Is there a section in the IRC that addresses "load bearing" paths and their

limitations on an offsetting pathway to the foundation?

Thanks!

.

Possibly Section R602.4 - Interior load bearing walls, which leads to Section R602.3 -

Design and construction, which leads to Table R602.3(5) in the 2006 Edition of the

IRC, for spacing limitations of the load paths?

Just trying to connect the dots..

I don't believe you will find a prescriptive answer. It will depend on if your floor is designed to carry the load and transfer that load to the foundation.
