Parents use to have old school with the salt

SOFT water for sure.

What are you trying to do to the water?!

I am going to recipe with copper and want to control scale buildup. I have experience with a softener that used salt and didn’t like the water.. A conditioner doesn’t use salt but I’m not sure that it will control scale as well as claimed.

Now I see, besides the hard water,,,

The great state does not like salt //// water conditioners

City water and the hardness is 17 grains.

At that level of hardness you will likely not experience any worthwhile reductions without a traditional water softener.
