So a water heater is installed in a conditioned crawl space.
the question is, will a pan and indirect waste line (to a receptor or exterior) be required?
The IRC/VRC 2801.6 says where water leakage will cause damage.
I take damage to be structure as has always been interpreted. But thinking outside the box, with a conditioned crawl space that communicates with the rest of the house, have to wonder what kind of damage would occur for example; the occupants leave for a 2 week vacation and the water spills its guts and the water keeps flowing and ponding up on the vapor barrier, (if done to the code, short of a pool liner in the crawl space) where it gets drawn in to the HVAC system and all thru the house. The occupants come back home and there are beads of water vapor on the walls , the carpet is damp and so on and so forth, is this damage ?
Thanks in advance
