We had a GC ask us, after he installed it, if we required water heaters to have their own individual sprinkler over them. He said it was in the code but I can't find it?

Maybe seismic zone somewhere?????

We do not require sprinklers in new homes, yet.

New SFR using 2006 IRC.

Any thoughts?

No. It's in a open basement utility type room, maybe 10'x12'.

Would that matter in SFR?

rktect 1,

Still learning the residential sprinkler requirements, I'am not sure? My personal thought would be your covering area not an appliance. But still learning.

This sounds like a good one for FM Burns!

Re: water heater sprinklered??

arktkt,

There are a few municipalities in "our" county that require sprinkler heads over residential mech. equipment.

PM me if you need more info.
