Anyone seen or heard about this type of test???????

""""""""" A high pressure water leak test program has now been started on new ductwork installations for several large chains. This is a low cost method that insures the ducts do not leak and also allows the cleaning contractor to verify proper access plate and fan installations. A spin jet is pulled through the entire system from the hood to the outlet at about 1500-2500 psi at 4GPM. """""""""

I have not seen it, but have heard of it and would gladly accept it, rather then having to climb all over to look for light leaks or smoke leaks

Well if no leaks are found at least there will be a mess to clean up.

I have hung a few hoods, just enought to realize I don't want to do that. Now I refer that work to another contractor I trust. But if you are doing a water test, don't you have to have the hood in place with the duct in place? Now, how do you determine where that leak is 20 feet up the duct? You cannot see the leak at that distance. The chase is already in place. Do you lower the welder down the duct head first? Do you poke holes in the chase and fix that later?

If the hood is draped properly, there should be minimal water on the floor, except for the water that leaks out of the duct joints.

I saw my first Captive Aire s/s factory duct last week. Other cleaners have told me cleaning the factory ducts is easier, faster and they do not leak. But they cost more, and there is more lead time.
