Does anyone know if AISC requires welding to be performed by a certified welder? Does anyone acutally own AISC 360?

Thanks!

You can download a free copy of AISC 360 from the AISC web site.

AISC 360-05 Section J2 requires conformance with AWS D1.1 which in turn requires welder certification. There should also be a welding procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR) for the welds to be performed. If these requirements are not addressed in the construction documents the design professional should be required to revise and resubmit them.

The welding inspector cannot do his work without the WPS.
