I have cluster of existing apartment buildings building #1,2,3....8 all joined by wall between each building.

They are doing utility upgrade so now their is one utility feeding new outside switchboard. The new outside switchboard has 2 new feeder breakers which have 2 new outside feeder feeding the cluster building #1 and #8.

Now one must determine if building #1 and #8 are considered separate buildings or cluster is comsidered one whole buildig. NEC 2014 section 225 says building can be fed by one feeder. If building #1 and #8 are considered separate buildings then two outside feeder going to each building ok but if not then you have one building with 2 outside feeder.

Cluster is existing and built by 1906 BOCA codes. However feeders going to cluster are new. Currently we are in IBC 2018.

Question: in order to determin if cluster is considered is whole building or has separate building so that amount of new feeder can be properly install per NEC 2014 Section 225 one needs to look at 1906 BOCA or IBC 2018?

Sorry

I think the question has been asked and answered.

For the final answer it will be any local ahj

See what the building offical says

The electrical inspector

The utility company

And the contract

And ultimate the building owner
