The solar industry is in trouble, not solar power. And as usual unscroupulus companies and the American need for short term riches has screwed the pooch. From the article:

In Germany, where installation is done locally and there are fewer intermediaries, the typical residential system costs about 50% less than it costs in the U.S.

The industry is in trouble but the federal government will not let it fail. Taxpayers have already invested many billions and the government has no problem with throwing good money after bad.
