This house is partially bricked. Evidently, they don't require the windows to be flashed here.

The manufacturer's flashing instructions were on some of the windows; with pictorial directions included.

This is a window that the brick has been installed;

Uncle Bob:This is "better living through chemistry" that the chemical industry has given us for cheap construction, ES Report-2436 approves it in some areas, even stapled on for wind and seismic without a WRB, they are suppose to tape the window flanges to the Styrofoam. Now the inspectors' dilemma, he has windows with manufacturers installation instructions showing code mandated conventional flashing lapped to a code mandated WRB, but he also has a new sheathing product with manufacturers installation instructions approved by the ICC Evaluation Services that do not include a WRB and have replaced the code mandated flashing with a simple tape. What to do? I'd say that since this material isn't in the prescriptive code make the permittee request an alternative, then deny the request based upon the conflict forcing them to install a WRB with an approved flashing system over the SIS.Also Note §5.9, in most of the United States, including the Lone Star State, it cannot be installed within 6" of the ground because of termite infestation, that should really be more like 6' off the ground, both Texas and California termites can build tunnels up that 6" faster than a Texas inspector can drink a long neck Lone Star brew.

Our firefighter friends hate this stuff too, if a house catches on fire it gasses them to death, or scars their lungs for life. But in all probability that won't happen, when one of those Texas hurricanes or Oklahoma tornadoes comes roaring through those styrofoam homes will collapse and the debris can be taken to the dumps to end up in the Pacific Gyre, and that's already twice the size of Texas.

Firefighters are supposed to be wearing SCBA by now, so that is one less argument in your quiver.
 
UB--Since you have posted that you are retired, can we assume you occassionally are out and about and photo these egregious violations?
