Are you looking for a mentor to help you along your career path? Do you want to find out more of what being a code official is all about? Have you ever wanted to have some one-on-one face time with some movers and shakers in the code enforcement and development industry? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, then speed mentoring may be just what you need.

Speed mentoring is similar to speed dating. There will be approximately 10-15 mentors participating as mentees rotate through the tables of mentors spending 5 minutes with each mentor. This event will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 8 pm. More information about the event, including participating mentors as well as the event location will be forthcoming. Be sure to mark this event on your calendar! This event is open to all ICC members.

The purpose behind this is to help those in the industry who are looking at getting to know others and to help them find someone that has been in the business awhile that would be willing to help guide them in the true sense of a mentor. Because there is often little time at the code hearings or the annual business meeting, it was opted to provide an event in which people could meet others quickly and efficiently.

It is open to anyone who is attending the code hearings in Dallas. The folks serving as mentors will be both men and women and will include some current ICC Board of Director members as well as other key people in the code industry.

Invitation to participate in the FIRST Speed Mentoring event

The Women in Code Enforcement and Development Chapter invites you to participate in the first Speed Mentoring event!

Are you looking for a mentor to help you along your career path? Do you want to find out more of what being a code official is all about? Have you ever wanted to have some one-on-one face time with some movers and shakers in the code enforcement and development industry? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, the Women in Code Enforcement and Development Chapter has just what you need – Speed Mentoring!

What is speed mentoring? Speed mentoring is similar to speed dating in that a brief amount of time is spent with each mentor asking advice from them in terms of their code enforcement and development careers. There will be approximately 15 mentors participating as mentees rotate through the tables of mentors spending 5 minutes with each mentor. Some of the mentors include the following:

• Shirley Ellis, Energy Code Specialist with Texas A&M University

• Dwayne Garriss, Georgia State Fire Marshal and current ICC Board of Director’s member

• Christina Jamison, Fire Marshal for San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District

• Bruce Johnson, ICC’s Director of Fire Service Activities/Government Relations

• Stephen Jones, Construction Official for Millburn Township, NJ and current ICC Board of Director’s Secretary/Treasurer

• Vickie Lovell, President of InterCode Incorporated

• Scott McDonald, Building Official for Amarillo, Texas

• Sharon Myers, Master Plans Examiner for the State of Ohio

• Ron Piester, Director of Code Enforcement and Administration for New York’s Department of State and current ICC Board of Director’s Vice President

• Tina Rakes, Code Administrator for Baldwin City, Kansas and current ICC Board of Director’s member

• Sarah Rice, Project Manager with the Preview Group

• Jon Roberts, Building Division Chief, Oklahoma’s State Fire Marshal’s office

• Maureen Traxler, Manager of Codes for the City of Seattle, WA

• Sara Yerkes, Senior Vice President with ICC

This event will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 8 pm in Majestic 4 at the Dallas Sheraton. A cash bar will be available to those in attendance with some light snacks.

So that we can properly match the number of mentees to mentors, pre-registration for this event is preferred. Please send your name, preferred email address, organization/jurisdiction, title, work phone and mailing address to speed@wicedicc.org. We look forward to seeing you at the event!

I really appreciate the hijacking of this post - NOT! This Chapter is trying to do something to be proactive for the ICC members and this is how you respond? Grow up!

You consider your response has grown? I just figured the tiger tail would would need to hang loose, which you might consider.
