I have empty space in shopping center. The space is going to be divided to create two tenants.
The wall dividing and separating the two spaces is 1 hr firewall. It goes from floor slab to underside of the structure/roof.
Has going from outermost to innermost: gypsum outermost layer then has UL rated GWB, then full cavity with sound attenuation batts and metal studs innermost.

Space data without as follows:

1. Mercantile
292 occupant capacity
Construction IIIB
No of stories 1
Area reno: 8734 sq foot
Fully sprinkler
Not high rise
Not standpipes
No Fire

would the wall create two separate buildings or not wothin space per IBC 2018?

706.1 General

Each portion of a building separated by one or more fire walls that comply with the provisions of this section shall be considered a separate building. The extent and location of such fire walls shall provide a complete separation. Where a fire wall separates occupancies that are required to be separated by a fire barrier wall, the most restrictive requirements of each separation shall apply.

706.4 Fire-Resistance Rating

Fire walls shall have a fire-resistance rating of not less than that required by Table 706.4.

TABLE 706.4
FIRE WALLFIRE-RESISTANCE RATINGS

Thats not what your post #6 link says. If for example I have one 8734 sq of space type M and want to divide that space to two type M occupancies then you are saying firwall is not needed in between?

Normally no

You are mixing concepts

No such thing as a one hour fire wall.

402.4.2.1 Tenant separations. Each tenant space shall
be separated from other tenant spaces by a fire partition
complying with Section 708. A tenant separation wall
is not required between any tenant space and the mall.

What Rick posted only applies to covered malls...Not sure if that is what your "shopping center" is....? If it is a strip mall, there is no tenant separation requirement, but there could be use separations or fire barriers for some other reason...
